OEP Guide

The OEP Guide demonstrates how to adopt open educational practices and use OER to improve teaching and learning. It consists of the core guideline document and two background documents giving a brief summary of the underlying concepts.

The OEP Guidelines

Many current OER initiatives focus overwhelmingly on access and availability of open educational resources (OER) and not enough on helping individuals and organisations to develop open educational practices (OEP). The Open Educational Quality Initiative (OPAL) therefore proposes these guidelines to improving open educational practices in organisations.

In this document we  introduce  you to the concept of open educational practices (OEP) and provide you with a guide on how to improve your practices. The guideline is designed as a maturity model which allows you to position your own organization according to the degree of maturity for each of the individual dimensions we have outlined and described below. In the next section we describe the concept of open educational practices. Afterwards you are presented with three tools to assess the maturity of your organisation in relation to its adoption of open educational practices.

OEP Scape

This positioning document explains the concept of open educational practices (OEP). In short, open educational practices constitute the adoption of open educational resources (OER) with the intention of driving improvement and innovation in teaching and learning. The creation, use, and re-use of open educational resources, as well as the exploitation of open learning  ecologies can be challenging for learners and educators, but also for leaders of educational institutions. Policy makers, as well, often need to be made aware of and understand both concepts, and can play a strategic role in fostering a rapid uptake of OER and enabling a timely adoption of OEP.

In short: Overview and Explanation of the Guideline Elements and Indicators

Alluded to in the previous two documents, this document presents the official list of elements which together constitute best practice in the implementation of open educational practices, as defined by the Open Educational Quality Initiative.

The initiative of OEP is excellent in many respects. I have met many people in the globe with excellent indigenous knowledge but they cannot express their ideas and share knowledge on various subjects just due to lack of format edcucational licences. I believe OEP will give them opportunity to widen their knowledge through sharing.
